The Trench

Our archival design and the foundation of Burberry outerwear, discover the iconic British trench. Chinese actor, Zhang Jingyi, wears the Castleford – a style named after our manufacturing site in Yorkshire, where we have been crafting trench coats since the 1960s. A beacon of Burberry innovation and craftsmanship for more than a hundred years, the trench coat has undergone various interpretations since its inception. Whilst traditional design details such as epaulettes, gun flaps and hardware may differ from season to season, each trench coat is united by our signature gabardine. Invented by our founder in 1879, the fabric has an open and reticular weave that allows the body to breathe and protects from rain and wind.

Signature Details
From the hook-and-eye collar closure to the throat latch and storm shield, each signature detail is designed to offer coverage from the elements.
Belt & Belted Cuffs
A traditional feature, the belt and belted cuffs are fastened with leather buckles and feature D-ring hardware – originally used to attach military gear.
Burberry Check Lining
This unmistakable house code has lined our raincoats since the 1920s. Today, our trench coats continue the tradition with seasonal and classic iterations.
